Meet Sabaya 'Mako' Deleru, a Nautolan Consular Templar character for 'Force & Destiny'
Reya: “Look, I like Lars and everything, but has anyone else noticed that all of his students seem to be exotic, hard-bodied young women who flounce around nearly naked?”
Jo: “Huh. That pretty much describes you! Fixing to ditch the explody stuff for haikus and a priestess sarong?”
Not all of those who refused the Exodus were rebels or outcasts. Sabaya's mother, Dah'lis, was pregnant when the Jedi and the Sith left the known galaxy to confront a mysterious threat. She had enough contacts to warrant pulling some strings, remaining behind to nurture her child rather than following her brethren. She sought to lose herself on a small water world in the Antares system, among the noted Ordalian Clan who make their home there, mostly studying the great aquatic creatures of their ecosystem.
Sabaya grew up there, in the aquatic dome-cities of her people, and spent her time studying marine life and honing her own Force abilities, alongside her younger two sisters, Selia and Leeha. Ben put Lucas Lars in contact with Dah'lis, and over the last few years, gradually convinced her that having her daughter join his Temple was a better destination for her than merely awaiting the Return of the Jedi. Lars taught her personally as his pupil, the second student trained as a Consular, the arts Master Yoda once instructed him on Dagobah.
Sabaya is surprisingly playful and energetic as consular, who are usually renowned for their wisdom and restraint. She is learned and well-educated, but also happy to engage in duels or battle, preferring a two-bladed lightsaber style that is unique among the Temple. Her energy and drive earned her the nickname 'Mako' among her people, after a giant aquatic predator famous for being a relentless hunter of the depths.
Sabaya is remarkably free of any existential angst, having grown up far from the Galactic Civil War and the repercussions of the Exodus. Confident and flirtatious, she has something of a 'thing' for twi'leks, torgruta, and other sentients with lekku. She is somewhat naïve, and has yet to fully comprehend the enormity of the task before her. Between the fractured, yet still terrifyingly dangerous Empire, the beleaguered Alliance, the unpredictable, ever-shifting allegiances of the Fringe - let alone the return of the imperious Jedi and ferocious Sith, the fledgling temple has its work cut out. But try they must, if any balance is to be made within this turbulent galaxy...
